There is a version of this weekend where somebody researches for two weeks, builds a list of eleven places, hits four of them, spends six hours driving, and goes home more tired than they arrived.

Saturday Afternoon: One Thing, Not Four
This is where weekends get overbooked. The move is a single choice, fully committed to.
Cherokee Rock Village is right there in Leesburg. Enormous sandstone boulder formations sitting high on Lookout Mountain, with views that make phone cameras look like liars. Climbers travel for it, though nobody needs a harness to enjoy the walk around. Real shoes, not the flip flops from Friday.
Little River Canyon National Preserve is one of the deepest canyon systems east of the Mississippi, with overlooks, waterfalls and forested trails. Two stops, not the whole preserve. Conditions are posted on the National Park Service site.
Noccalula Falls in Gadsden brings a 90 foot waterfall plus train rides and biking trails, which makes it the easy win with younger kids who hear "hike" and immediately start negotiating.
DeSoto State Park is the comfortable middle. Trails, waterfalls, easy parking, no scrambling.
Saturday Night: Nothing Requires Driving
Everyone heads back, rinses off the lake, and the pace drops.
Worth checking the dates in advance: live music at Chesnut Bay is included for resort guests when it is scheduled. The calendar runs seasonally, so it is better confirmed than assumed.
Otherwise, mini golf glows under the tree canopy at night, two miles of trails are open, and there is a chair somewhere with a lake in front of it.
Sunday: One Stop on the Way Out
Sunday is short. Cramming it defeats the point.
For an afternoon departure, one more lake morning is the correct answer.
For a stop on the drive home, the timing works out nicely. Sundays bring the Mountain Top Flea Market, a sprawling outdoor market where people walk in for nothing and walk out with a cast iron skillet. Saturday departures get Collinsville Trade Day instead.

The Mistake Worth Avoiding
Filling every hour with off property stops.
A base camp with two pools, a private beach, community docks, mini golf, a jumping pillow, playground, basketball, sand volleyball, horseshoes, two miles of walking trails, kayaks and water trike bikes is already a full weekend of things to do.
